Introduction

NJPPSA members in good standing are encouraged to seek education and training in the field of process serving. To that end, NJPPSA is sponsoring seminars on the subject of "How to Serve Civil Process in New Jersey " which shall hereafter be referred to as the NJPPSA Certification Course. Members attending and meeting the requirements of these seminars will be eligible to be designated by NJPPSA as "Certified Process Servers". Those so designated will receive a NJPPSA Approved Identification Card, and their names will appear on a Registry of Certified Process Servers maintained by the NJPPSA Secretary.

Njppsa Membership In Good Standing Required

A prerequisite to obtaining and maintaining the designation "Certified Process Server" is membership, in good standing, in NJPPSA. As such, a NJPPSA member has agreed to abide by the Bylaws of the Association, and the Canons of Professional and Ethical Conduct for Professional Process Servers in New Jersey . These form the basis of professionalism among process servers which is one of the purposes of this Association.

Initial Certification

  1. All members in good standing who have previously attended the NJPPSA Certification Course are eligible to be designated "Certified Process Servers" with all the rights and benefits attendant thereto.
  2. All members in good standing who shall hereafter satisfactorily complete the NJPPSA Certification Course shall be eligible to be designated "Certified Process Server" with all the rights and benefits attendant thereto.

Certification Requirements

  1. NJPPSA member in good standing.
  2. Attend the NJPPSA Certification Course.
  3. Pass a written examination designed to demonstrate a working knowledge of the rules, statutes, practices and procedures for service of process within the State of New Jersey . Testing and re-testing procedures to be established.

Maintenance of Certification Status

  1. All members in good standing who have received their initial certification shall be required to obtain, on a yearly basis, continuing education credits in order to maintain the designation and status of "Certified Process Server". Acceptable continuing education credits shall consist of at least eight hours annually at one or more of the following:
    1. Attendance at each NJPPSA quarterly meeting during given year (@ 2 hours), or
    2. Attendance at NJPPSA annually sponsored court rules update seminar (2 hours), or
    3. Attendance at other professionally sponsored seminars or educational programs on the subject of service of process in New Jersey . ( proof of subject matter & length of course required)
  2. Proof of satisfaction of these requirements shall be the responsibility of each eligible member. Failure to maintain the yearly continuing education requirements shall be sufficient cause for the removal of a member’s name from the Registry of Certified Process Servers maintained by the Association, and for the revocation of the NJPPSA issued Approved Identification Card.

Process Server Seminars and Training to Non-Members

NJPPSA encourages all persons engaged in the business of service of process to obtain education and training on this subject matter from any source possible. Recognizing the unique nature and value of the NJPPSA Certification Course, NJPPSA has made, and will continue to make, its seminars available to the public for a fee. Any person attending these seminars may be eligible for the designation "Certified Process Server" only upon becoming a NJPPSA member, provided that admission to membership is made within one year of attendance at seminar.

Fees and Costs

The fees charged to NJPPSA members and nonmembers for attendance at the NJPPSA Certification Course shall be determined by the Board of Directors.

Administration and Oversight

The Certification and Continuing Education Standing Committee shall be responsible for the implementation, administration and oversight of the NJPPSA Certification and Continuing Education Program.
